Taco Night at The Lavender Hazel
There’s something about taco night that always feels fun, relaxed, and inviting. It’s one of those meals that naturally brings people together, everyone gathers around the counter, builds their plates exactly how they like them, and lingers a little longer over good food and conversation.
For this Taco Night at The Lavender Hazel, I wanted to create something that felt casual but elevated. My goal was simple: fresh ingredients, bold flavors, beautiful presentation, and an atmosphere that felt warm and welcoming.
Because hosting is never really just about the food.
It’s about creating a space where people feel comfortable, welcomed, and connected.
I set the tone with blue-and-white dishes, woven textures, bright citrus, fresh flowers, and of course, my Taco Night at The Lavender Hazel playlist playing in the background. The music added so much to the evening—it brought energy, warmth, and just the right amount of fun.

The Menu for Taco Night at The Lavender Hazel:
For this taco night menu, I kept everything fresh and flavorful:
Marinated Flank Steak
Cilantro Lime Rice with Black Beans
Homemade Guacamole
Homemade Pico de Gallo
Crumbled Cotija Cheese
Tortilla Chips
Palomas
The combination was exactly what I hoped for, bright, fresh, savory, and perfect for summer entertaining.

The Main Event: Marinated Flank Steak
Flank steak is one of my favorite proteins for taco night because it feels elevated while still being easy to prepare. A good marinade transforms it completely, creating tender, flavorful slices that pair perfectly with fresh toppings.
After grilling, I sliced the steak thin and served it on a wooden board with fresh lime wedges for an easy but beautiful presentation.
Simple touches like this instantly make dinner feel special.

Fresh Toppings Make All the Difference
If there’s one thing that elevates taco night, it’s fresh toppings.
Homemade guacamole and pico de gallo are worth the extra few minutes. The freshness adds brightness and texture, and they completely change the final dish.
Creamy avocado, juicy tomatoes, fresh cilantro, tangy lime, and salty cotija create layers of flavor that make every bite better.
Cilantro Lime Rice with Black Beans
This side dish tied everything together beautifully.
The rice added substance while the lime and cilantro kept things fresh and light. Mixed with black beans, it became the perfect base for bowls, tacos, or even a loaded plate.
It’s hearty enough to stand on its own but simple enough to let the steak and toppings shine.

Don’t Skip the Cocktail
No Taco Night at The Lavender Hazel would be complete without a signature drink.
For this dinner, I made Palomas, and they were the perfect pairing.
Light, citrusy, refreshing, and just slightly tart, they complemented the bold flavors of the meal perfectly. Served over ice with plenty of fresh lime, they felt like summer in a glass.
Hosting Tips for an Easy Taco Night
Taco night is one of my favorite hosting menus because so much can be prepped ahead.
Here are a few ways to make it easy:
Marinate the steak earlier in the day
Prep toppings ahead of time
Make guacamole and pico just before guests arrive
Serve buffet-style so guests can build their own plates
Add a fun playlist to create the mood
When the food is easy to serve, you get to spend more time doing what matters most—being present.
And that’s really what gathering around the table is all about.
Good food. Great conversation. Shared moments.
Sometimes the simplest dinners create the best memories.
