My Fourth of July Menu
I remember the Fourth of July growing up. Every summer, I spent my days with my Grams and usually celebrated the holiday with my cousins on my dad's side of the family. We would spend the entire day outside lighting firecrackers, smoke bombs, and snakes, convinced we had an endless supply of energy.
Whenever the heat got the best of us, we'd run into my aunt's house, grab a Coke and a snack, and head right back outside to continue our "important work." We'd spend hours laughing, competing to see who could make the biggest smoke cloud or whose firecracker was the loudest.
As evening settled in, we'd pack up and head to Memorial Field to watch the fireworks. There was something magical about sitting under the summer sky, waiting for the first burst of color to light up the night. Those evenings remain some of my sweetest childhood memories.
As an adult, my enthusiasm for lighting fireworks has faded—although you'll never convince me I'm too old for sparklers. There's just something about holding one in your hand that makes you feel like a kid again.
What hasn't changed is my love of gathering around a table with the people I care about.
Hosting friends and family on the Fourth of July is one of my favorite ways to celebrate the heart of summer. Good food, cold drinks, music playing in the background, and conversations that last long after sunset, that's what makes the holiday memorable.
This Fireworks, Finger Foods & Summer Nights menu is built around easy appetizers and fresh summer flavors that can be prepared ahead of time, leaving more time to enjoy the evening instead of standing in the kitchen.
A quick note before we get started: The Buffalo Chicken Meatballs, White BBQ Shrimp Cocktail, Bacon Ranch Cheese Bread, and Blueberry Basil Limeade are inspired by recipes from The Pioneer Woman by Ree Drummond. I've made a few adjustments to make them my own, and I'm grateful for the inspiration behind this delicious menu.

The Menu

Buffalo Chicken Meatballs with Homemade Ranch
These meatballs are always the first thing to disappear. They're juicy, tossed in buttery buffalo sauce, and perfectly balanced with a cool homemade ranch dipping sauce. They're easy to make ahead and keep warm while guests arrive, making them ideal for entertaining.
One of my favorite things about this recipe is that the meatballs can be baked ahead of time and gently reheated in the buffalo sauce just before guests arrive.
Ingredients
Meatballs
1½ pounds ground chicken
½ cup panko breadcrumbs
¼ cup finely diced celery
¼ cup minced fresh chives
1 large egg
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons ranch dressing (See recipe below)
4 tablespoons salted butter
¾ cup buffalo sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
Homemade Ranch
1 cup mayonnaise
½ cup sour cream
2 tablespoons fresh dill, minced
1 tablespoon minced fresh chives
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
2 cloves garlic, finely grated
Directions
Preheat your oven to 425°F and spray a baking sheet with cooking oil.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, panko, celery, chives, egg, ranch dressing, salt, and pepper until just incorporated. Form the mixture into meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake 10 minutes, take the pan out of the oven turn the meatballs and return to over for an additional 10 minutes . This adds a nice crust to both sides.
Meanwhile, melt the butter, the buffalo and soy sauce in a large skillet. Add the cooked meatballs and gently toss until evenly coated.
To prepare the ranch, whisk together all of the dressing ingredients until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

White BBQ Shrimp Cocktail
Traditional shrimp cocktail gets a Southern-inspired makeover with a creamy white barbecue sauce that's tangy, flavorful, and just a little unexpected. Served in individual glasses, it's a fun appetizer that feels a little more special than the classic version.
Ingredients
Shrimp
1 pound extra-large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon barbecue seasoning
White BBQ Sauce
1 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
1 tablespoon whole-grain mustard
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons chopped chives
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Lemon slices for garnish
Directions
Preheat a grill medium high heat.
Toss the shrimp with olive oil and barbecue seasoning until evenly coated.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, vinegar, horseradish, mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, chives, and parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Grill the shrimp for 3 to 4 minutes per side, just until cooked through.
Serve the barbecue sauce in small bowls or cups and garnish with lemon slices, fresh parsley, and chives.

Bacon Ranch Cheese Bread
Every party needs that one recipe everyone hovers around.
For my family, it's this bread, which my Son has named "cheesy monkey bread".
Warm sourdough stuffed with bacon, Monterey Jack, cheddar, ranch seasoning, butter, and fresh herbs is practically impossible to resist. Make two, you'll thank me later.
Ingredients
1 round bread loaf (I like to use the mini bread bowls for soup)
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
8 slices bacon, cooked and diced
1 tablespoon fresh parsley
2 green onions
2 cloves of garlic grated
1 stick salted butter, melted
2 tablespoons ranch seasoning mix
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Melt the butter
Mix the melted butter with garlic, green onions and ranch mix.
Combine the cheeses, bacon, and parsley in a bowl.
Using a serrated knife, cut the bread into a crosshatch pattern without cutting all the way through the bottom.
Stuff the cheese mixture into each opening.
Drizzle the butter mixture evenly over the loaf.
Wrap the bread in foil and bake for 25 minutes. Open the foil and continue baking for another 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Blueberry Basil Limeade
Every gathering deserves a signature drink.
Fresh basil, juicy blueberries, and bright lime create one of the most refreshing summer drinks I've ever served. Add a splash of gin for the adults, or leave it as a mocktail that's just as delicious.
Ingredients
1 cup sugar
4-5 sprigs fresh basil
1½ cups fresh lime juice
1 container fresh blueberries
Gin or Vodka (optional)
Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Directions
In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, basil sprigs, and one cup of water. Heat over medium high until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and allow the basil to steep for about 30 minutes before discarding.
Pour the basil simple syrup into a pitcher or drink container and stir in the lime juice and four cups of cold water. Add the blueberries and refrigerate for several hours, preferably overnight.
Serve over ice and garnish with fresh basil.
For a cocktail, add 1½ ounces of gin or vodka to each glass before topping with the blueberry basil limeade.

Mini Fruit Pizza Cups
No Fourth of July celebration feels complete without a patriotic dessert.
These mini fruit pizza cups combine a buttery shortbread cookie with a lightly sweetened cream cheese filling and fresh strawberries and blueberries. They're easy to serve, perfectly portioned, and add just the right amount of red, white, and blue to the dessert table.
Cookie Cups
Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
½ cup powdered sugar
¼ cup cornstarch
1½ cups all-purpose flour
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a mini muffin pan.
Cream the butter until light and fluffy. Mix in the granulated sugar and powdered sugar. Add the cornstarch and flour, mixing just until the dough comes together.
Roll the dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place one into each muffin cup. Using the back of a ½ teaspoon measuring spoon, press a well into the center of each cookie.
Bake for 20–22 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. Allow the cookie cups to cool completely.
Cream Cheese Filling
Ingredients
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
⅓ cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
2 teaspoons heavy cream
Directions
Beat the cream cheese until smooth and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla bean paste, and heavy cream, mixing until creamy.
Pipe or spoon the filling into each cooled cookie cup.
Top with chopped strawberries and fresh blueberries just before serving.
A Few Hosting Tips
One thing I've learned over the years is that the less cooking you do while guests are there, the more you actually enjoy the party.
A few things I always do:
Prepare the sauces the day before.
Bake the meatballs ahead of time and warm them in the buffalo sauce before serving.
Make the blueberry basil limeade several hours early or the night before so the flavors have time to develop.
Assemble the cheese bread ahead of time and simply bake it before guests arrive.
Grill the shrimp just before serving.
🎶 What's Playing on the Patio
No Fourth of July gathering feels complete without music drifting through the backyard. While the appetizers are warming, drinks are being poured, and everyone is catching up, I like to press play and let the playlist set the mood.
I created Stars, Stripes & Summer Nights as the soundtrack for this celebration. It's a mix of classic Americana, country favorites, and feel-good summer songs that carry us from sunny afternoons to fireworks after dark.
Whether you're flipping burgers, passing around Buffalo Chicken Meatballs, or ending the evening with sparklers, I hope these songs become part of your own Fourth of July memories.

Around the Table
As I think back on those Fourth of July celebrations from my childhood, I realize it was never really about the fireworks.
It was about family.
It was about cousins running barefoot through the yard, grandparents watching from lawn chairs, grabbing another cold Coke from the refrigerator, and ending the evening shoulder to shoulder beneath a sky full of color.
Today, my celebrations may look a little different, but the heart behind them remains exactly the same.
Here's to good food, great music, sparklers that still make us smile, and creating memories that someone else will look back on years from now with the same fondness.
Happy Fourth of July from my table to yours. 🇺🇸
