Apple Pie

Ingredients
Pie Filling
6–8 Jonathan apples, peeled, cored, and sliced ¼-inch thick
2 tablespoons butter, cut into small cubes
⅔ cup granulated sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
A splash of heavy whipping cream
Crumb Topping
(Feel free to double the crumb topping for extra crumble.)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter cubed, room temperature
Crust
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup shortening
a pinch of Kosher salt
Ice water
Instructions For Pie Crust
Place flour, shortening and salt in a stand mixer with a paddle attachment
Turn the mixer on low to combine ingredients
When the mixture is all combined slowly add ice water until a ball starts to form
Turn off the mixer and remove the dough from the bowl
Form the dough into a ball
Turn the dough onto a floured surface
Using a rolling Pin, roll dough into a 10" circle
Roll crust and lay evenly in a glass pie plate
Pinch the top of crust to form a decorative edge
Instructions For Crumb Topping
Place flour, sugar, and butter into a bowl
Combine all of the ingredients using a pastry cutter (or fork) the consistency will look like a dry pebbly mix
Instructions For Pie
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Prepare and place the pie crust into a pie plate.
In a medium bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Gently stir until the apples are evenly coated.
Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust.
Sprinkle the cubed butter evenly over the apples.
Add a few splashes of heavy whipping cream over the filling.
Prepare the crumb topping and generously sprinkle it over the pie. (For extra crumble, double the topping recipe.)
Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
Allow the pie to cool slightly before serving.

Yields: 8 servings
